Kazakhstan News: With the beginning of the year, a sudden doubling in the prices of the LPG in Kazakhstan ignited riots within the nation. Chaos expanded and led to further unnecessary loss of lives and property. As a result the Government resigned but the protest is still not under control. Read about the story in complete detail.

• Still riots started as a result of hike in prices of LPG with the beginning of the year 2022.

Where Is Kazakhstan?

Kazakhstan is a large country in central Asia sharing borders with China and Russia. Mountains and hilly areas being the major part of the country, it has a population of around 19 million only. It gained independence in 1991 and since then it has attracted many foreign investments worth billions of dollars because of its capacity to produce around 1.6 million barrels of oil per day.

Renowned as the oil reserve in the entire globe, Kazakhstan has not been able to do the welfare of the public by propagating the required wealth to the public under the rule of its ex-president Nursultan Nazarbayev who ruled the nation till 2019 since independence in 1991. 

Kazakhstan News: What Is Happening in Kazakhstan?

Currently there has been a protest and a state of chaos and complete unrest in parts of Kazakhstan majorly in the city of Almaty. With more than 1000 people wounded and nearly 400 hospitalized, the situation has slipped out of the hands of government officials and taken the form of a big revolt the country has witnessed within the past few decades. In trying to take control over demonstrators, 12 members of the police have been killed with one of them found beheaded and around 353 members are found to be injured as per police statements. 

Kazakhstan News: Why Did the Riots Start?

Protests started on January 2 when the prices of LPG hiked overnight, causing problems for the common public to manage funds. Initially the protests were very minor and were limited to a few people only. But as the day passed, people joined and the protest took the form of complete unrest resulting in a nationwide state of emergency. The hike in the prices of the fuel was the main cause of the riot but with the expansion of the riot, the frustration of the public with ex-president Nursultan Nazarbayev also came out as the primary cause of the chaos.  

Government Buildings Set on Fire

With protests going on in more than dozens of cities inside the nation, the situation is surely not under the control of the government. The main square in the city of Almaty being the point of major gunfire and explosions. Metal barriers were being laid in position around the main square building of Almaty but the protestors were able to gain access to the Main Square. There were images released with black smoke coming out of the main square building. People are scared and aren’t coming out of their homes. All the big malls and shops are closed. Only small shops are open for the public to arrange for required food. 

Kazakhstan News: Kazakhstan Government Resigned 

Protestors burned cars and set government buildings on fire. Road blocks, railway shutdowns, damage on the local businesses and property have been happening inside the cities where protests are going on. The internet has been shut down by the government so as to stop communication as far as protests are concerned. Seeing all this the government in Kazakhstan resigned from its power but still the agitation continues. Along with this the mayor’s office was also attacked and gunshots were also witnessed. 

How Is Russia Getting Involved?

Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev asked for help from the Russian Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) via State TV on Wednesday when the situation went out of his control. Upon performing all possible wayouts, he wasn’t successful in ending the protests. With increasing deaths and government buildings set on fire, the President called this to be an act of foreign trained terrorist but without presenting any proofs in favour of his statement.

Within hours of his demand the troops arrived from Russia as a peacekeeping force to stay there for weeks to control the protest. The president of the organization said they agreed to the request that Kazakhstan is facing ‘outside interference’. With the airport now under the control of the army, the Russian Defense Ministry is sending in planes with loaded troops and has released a video of the same. 

Chaos Happens in the Place of Satan
