World Environment Day (WED) 2025 from the origin
World Environment Day is celebrated to generate awareness on environmental issues and sustainable environmental development among people all around the globe.
World Environment Day takes place every year on June 5th. It was created by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. This date was chosen to coincide with the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, a significant moment in global environmental diplomacy. The inaugural World Environment Day was celebrated in 1973, featuring the theme “Only One Earth”.
World Environment Day (WED) 2025 Theme: Ending Plastic Pollution
Plastic pollution worsens the severe effects of the triple planetary crisis: climate change, loss of nature, land, and biodiversity, and the crisis of pollution and waste. Each year, around 11 million tonnes of plastic waste enter aquatic ecosystems worldwide, while microplastics build up in the soil from sewage and landfills, largely due to plastics used in agriculture. The yearly social and environmental costs of plastic pollution are estimated to be between US$300 billion and US$600 billion.
This year’s World Environment Day is observed as countries make strides towards establishing a global treaty to eliminate plastic pollution, particularly in marine environments. In November 2024, the Republic of Korea hosted the fifth round of negotiations aimed at creating a plastic pollution treaty. The second part of this session is scheduled for 5 to 14 August in Geneva, Switzerland.
United Nations About Ending Plastic Pollution
According to United Nations the Earth faces a triple planetary challenges.
- the climate change caused the temperature to rise too high to quickly adapt by people and natlple;
- An estimated 1 million species are threatened with extinction due to habitat loss and other pressures;
- pollution is highest to poison our air, land and water.
The solution to the challenges is to align the economies and societies inclusive, fair and better connected with nature. The planet can not be harmed any more but it is to heal. For doing so, the available solutions and the technology should be used extensively. #BeatPlasticPollution is the campaign for World Environment Day 2025. The social responsibility is the need of hour for collective, transformative action on a global scale to protect and restore the planet Earth. By ensuring the minimisation of plastic we can ensure its restoration.

This strategy unites government, businesses, and consumers to change plastic usage and disposal, aiming to minimize waste, enhance recycling, and promote a circular economy for a sustainable future.
Jeju Province will host World Environment Day and has set a goal to eliminate plastic pollution by 2040. It is the only province requiring household waste to be taken to designated recycling centers, boosting recycling rates, and it also introduced a disposable cup deposit system in Korea.

We do not have a planet B so we cannot afford to be the enemy of our home planet by polluting air, water, and land Which is why the world environment day is also known as People’s Day.
How the Corona Pandemic Affected Planet Earth?
The Coronavirus Outbreaks indeed impacted the lives of the masses worldwide. The income levels went down drastically impacting over 90 percent of the population. On the other hand, the positive impact on the environment was noticed and the pollution parameters changed towards the corrective side.
The major reason was the hampering of production due to lockdown and the emissions from the industry fell sharply. Simultaneously the major accumulation of medical waste created another problem. The disposal became a great problem and became a cause of other infections. The situation compelled the government and the scientific community to take measures in the changing scenario.
How Will the Environment Improve?
The present state of the environment is quite miserable. It seems near to impossible to breathe into clean air now. But, God Kabir Saheb Ji has told that this all is going to change soon because a Satyug-like atmosphere is going to arrive in Kalyug (the present age) under the Leadership of Jagat Guru Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj. The entire world will take Naam Diksha (Initiation) from Saint Rampal Ji now. Then, the trees will be in abundance on the whole earth quite soon. To know more, kindly read: The Golden Age is Coming
