Corona New Variant NeoCov: A single molecular extrade in the lab enabled a coronavirus referred to as Neocov to effectively infect human cells using the equal pathway that the SARS-CoV-2 uses to contaminate human cells, according to the researchers from Wuhan University, Wuhan, China said in a report that is yet to be peer-reviewed. The WHO said that it is aware of the development, but the virus requires further study to ascertain if it poses a risk to humans.

What Is the NeoCoV Variant?

NeoCoV is a bat coronavirus that was discovered for the first time in 2011. It was discovered in a bat species called Neoromicia, from whence the name NeoCoV was derived. This species, sometimes known as aloe bats, is found in the Afro-Malagasy region. NeoCoV has an 85% genome sequence similarity to MERS-CoV, making it the closest known relative of MERS-CoV.

However, the study, not yet peer-reviewed and released on the bioRxiv website, found, NeoCoV and its close relative, PDF-2180-CoV, can use some types of bat Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and human ACE2 for entry.

Wuhan Scientists Warn of New Covid Virus ‘NeoCov’ With High Death Rate

The research findings stated that the novel coronavirus poses a risk because it binds to the ACE2 receptor differently than the coronavirus pathogen. As a result, neither antibodies nor protein molecules produced by people with respiratory diseases or who have been immunized can protect against NeoCoV.
