Omicron Spread in India: The deadly second wave of the pandemic hit India in May. On Sunday, Delhi recorded 3,194 new Covid infections, the highest single-day increase since May 20, when India was officially declared to be in the grip of the pandemic’s second wave. Similar increases have been reported in Mumbai and Kolkata. West Bengal reported 6,153 infections on Sunday, with Kolkata’s positivity rate reaching 33%.

  • Karnataka has increased vigilance in border districts, and the state government may impose new restrictions.
  • As the number of cases increases, the Supreme Court has decided to resume online hearings for two weeks beginning January 3.

India reports 33,750 fresh COVID cases, 10,846 recoveries, and 123 deaths in the last 24 hours. Total Active cases: 1,45,582 with total recoveries: 3,42,95,407 and death toll 4,81,893

India has completed total vaccination 1,45,68,89,306 till date.

As of the 1st of January, Maharashtra led the list with 460 new cases, followed by Delhi with 351, Tamil Nadu with 121, and Gujarat with 136. Vaccination for those aged 15 to 18 will begin on Monday. The majority of the new cases in Delhi and Mumbai are asymptomatic, indicating that this outbreak is being driven by Omicron, the most recent variant of SARS-CoV-2. 

Omicron Spread in India: Cases surge in Karnataka

The everyday rise in Coronavirus cases in Bengaluru is reaching 1 thousand. Bengaluru reported 923 new Covid cases and 3 deaths on Sunday. Karnataka added 1,187 new cases to the state’s total infection count on Sunday. While the numbers on Saturday, Friday, Thursday, and Wednesday were 1033, 832, 707, and 566 respectively. The chief minister stated that the government was also focusing on the vaccination drive and that vaccinations for teenagers aged 15 to 18 years old would begin on Monday. Those with comorbidities would receive booster doses, he added.

Rajasthan Imposes New Restrictions in Response to the Covid surge.

From January 3 to January 9, all government and private schools in Jaipur will be closed for classes 1–8. Other district collectors can make decisions based on the requirements after consulting with the education department, according to the official press release.

Restrictions Imposed in Chandigarh

Restaurants, marriage palaces, and banquet halls in Chandigarh will now be operating at half capacity. Restaurants in Chandigarh, including hotels, coffee shops, eating establishments, marriage palaces, and banquet halls, will now operate at half capacity. Only those who have received both doses of the vaccine will be permitted entry, according to an official order issued in Chandigarh.

Omicron Spread in India: The Covid Situation in Maharashtra 

Maharashtra has reported 11,877 new cases, 2,069 recoveries, and 9 deaths. There are 42,024 active cases. 50 more people with Omicron infection were recorded positive, making the total number of Omicron cases in Maharashtra 510. Maharashtra currently has the highest number of Omicron cases in the country, according to union health ministry data.

As of January 1, the state had logged a total of 454 Omicron cases, of which 167 had been discharged. Dr. Pradeep Vyas, Maharashtra’s additional chief secretary of health, has predicted that the state will have 2 lakh active cases by the third week of January.

Delhi Fights Omicron

South Delhi had the newest infections 372 out of the 2,716 recorded on Saturday, followed by the west district 356, the northwest 323, the southeast 314, and Central Delhi 278. There was also one death in the city.

According to government data, 8,717 hospital beds are vacant out of a total of 9,024 available. 3,996 beds in dedicated Covid care centers are vacant, while 4,759 patients are isolated at home. Currently, there are four severe cases in the Capital, and 94 people are on oxygen.

Omicron Spread in India: Lockdown in West Bengal

West Bengal has declared a state of emergency, closing schools, colleges, and gyms. It has also reduced flight operations to and from Delhi and Mumbai, two of the current hotspots of the surge. Furthermore, shopping malls, market complexes, restaurants, and bars have been subjected to new restrictions, with only 50% of their total capacity permitted.

Without Sat-Bhakti No one is Safe

Those who do not perform Sat-Bhakti based on the holy scriptures of all the religions and are doing arbitrary practices can never receive the benefits of worship.
