Antivirus Pioneer John McAfee Death in Spanish Prison – Suicide or Killing?

John David McAfee was a versatile personality who developed antivirus for computers and propagated cryptocurrency to a new height. His motive was always to make money that he lost several times and got entangled in the net of legal laws. Ultimately he died without achieving the real purpose of human life. The fact is he never got an opportunity to learn True Eternal Knowledge otherwise he would have lived decently.

What Happened to John McAfee?

John David McAfee, the initiator of the antivirus software business with his name, was uncovered dead inside a jail cell on Wednesday. It happened shortly after Spain’s National Court granted his extradition to the United States. A Spanish government official said about the suspected death of the 75-year-old American technology entrepreneur and cybersecurity pioneer.

McAfee stands facing federal charges of tax evasion and cryptocurrency-related crimes. He is suspected to have killed himself by suicide while being held at a penitentiary near Barcelona. Without disclosing his name and the probable cause of his death the regional Catalan government confirmed to The Associated Press that the U.S. citizen has died at the jail.

Mcafee Death Is a Mystery ― Suicide or Killing?

The reasons for McAfee’s death are completely unknown.  His wife Janice warned in a social media post that the United States wanted John to die in prison. She said John faced troubles due to his honesty that troubles the corrupt governments and corrupt government officials.

Some of John McAfee’s past tweets indicate his claims about himself. In his October 15, 2020 tweet McAfee says, “Know that if I hang myself, a la Epstein, it will be no fault of mine.” 

McAfee’s tweet on Dec 1, 2019 says Getting subtle messages from U.S. officials saying, in effect: “We’re coming for you McAfee! We’re going to kill yourself”. I got a tattoo today just in case. If I suicide myself, I didn’t. I was whackd. Check my right arm.

What Is John McAfee’s Worth?

John McAfee had a net worth of $4 million at the time of his death. He became wealthy and famous as the founder and CEO of the anti-virus software company McAfee. Once upon a time his net worth was about $100 million, but he lost a major part of his income in bad investments during the 2008 global recession.

How Was John McAfee’s Early Life?

John was born in Cinderford, England, on September 18, 1945, to a British mother, and an American father. His father was an American soldier positioned at the American army base. John was grown in Salem, Virginia, in the United States. He had equal ease at British states as well as American land. Since his childhood he did not get a good atmosphere at home as his father was abusive and alcoholic. His father committed suicide by gun when John McAfee was only fifteen years age. John graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1967 at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. His school awarded him an honorary Doctor of Science degree in 2008.

How Was John David McAfee’s Professional Career?

After completing bachelor’s degree from college, McAfee joined NASA’s Institute for Space Studies, New York City from 1968 to 1970 as a programmer for the program. He left NASA and worked as a software designer at Univac. Later he worked at Xerox as an operating system architect. John McAfee changed his line to software consulting by joining the Computer Sciences Corporation in 1978. Later he also worked for the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton from 1980 to 1982.

In the 1980s, while he was working for Lockheed, John McAfee initiated developing virus combating software. During the period, a copy of the Brain computer virus became a subject of attention and John started focusing on anti-virus software. In 1987, McAfee left behind his service to other companies and started his own computer anti-virus company named McAfee Associates. After a few years, in 1992, the company became incorporated in the state of Delaware. He resigned from this company within two years in 1994. Two years later the McAfee associates went public. John McAfee did use the opportunity to sell his entire stake in the company for $100 million.

In 1997, McAfee Associates and the company Network General merged to form a new company Network Associates. After seven years, Network Associates was given a new name McAfee, Inc. which was bought by Intel in August 2010. McAfee products were marketed in its own brand until January 2014. Later McAfee Inc products were marketed under the name Intel Security. In another business movement, McAfee, Inc. was spun out of Intel in a joint venture between Intel and TPG Capital, called McAfee, LLC in 2018.

McAfee made several bad investments such as a sizable gamble on Lehman Brothers’ bonds. It made a loss of millions compelling him to sell his assets including the real estate. McAfee sold his Colorado estate worth $25 million for just $5.7 million. In the series, he had to sell a mansion in Hawaii, a ranch in New Mexico and a Cessna private jet.

McAfee Misused Social Media to Push Niche Cryptocurrencies

ON December 20, 2017, John McAfee tweeted “Beginning tomorrow, I will each day talk about a unique altcoin,” “Most of the 2,000 coins are trash or scams. I’ve read every white paper. The few I’m connected to I will tell you. The rest I have no position in.” This tweet caught the attention of the Department of Justice. The US Attorney office of the Southern District of New York indicted McAfee on several charges that include alleged cryptocurrency schemes for collection of $13 million. McAfee has misused his widely held Twitter account to push niche cryptocurrencies or promote initial coin offerings. He did not disclose his followers about his profit motive, either through investment gains or promotional fees. McAfee was charged to have exploited social media platforms by creating interest among investors in the emerging cryptocurrency market to make millions through false and misleading statements to conceal their true, self-interested motives.

What Were Several Legal Issues Against McAfee?

In April 2012, John David McAfee property in Orange Walk Town, Belize was raided by the Belizean Police Department’s Gang Suppression Unit. The police arrested him for unlicensed drug manufacturing and possession of an unlicensed weapon. Later he was freed without imposing any charges by the police.

In November 2012, the Belizean police investigated McAfee for a murder of his neighbor an American expatriate Gregory Viant Faull who was killed from a gunshot wound. McAfee escaped Belize and tried to seek asylum in Guatemala City, Guatemala. To enter Guatemala illegally he was arrested on December 5, 2012 and was denied the request to his asylum. He had to wait for deportation in a Guatemalan detention center holding facility where he met with two minor heart attacks and was released on December 6, 2012 and deported from Guatemala back to the United States. McAfee is alleged to have faked the heart attacks to buy time for his attorney to file an appeal for him.

It is not the end of McAfee’s legal story. In August 2015, he was arrested in Tennessee for intoxicated driving under the influence and possession of a firearm. Later, in November 2018 the Circuit Court in Orlando, Florida, refused to terminate a wrongful death lawsuit for Faull’s death. In early 2019, another suit was brought against John McAfee to indict on tax-related charges. In another instance, in July 2019, he was arrested in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, while his yacht was docked there and was released after being held for four days.

In October 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice requested Spain to arrest him for his detainment for tax evasion. On June 23, 2021, the Spanish government declared to extradite John back to the United States. Unfortunately, it is believed that John took his own life the same day.
