International Day of Peace History & Background

International Peace Day 2022: The UN General Assembly founded the International Day of Peace in 1981. The UN General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the day as a period when countries exercised nonviolence and cease-fire 20 years after it was formed. The United Nations initially designated the third Tuesday in September as International Peace Day in 1981. The United Nations General Assembly convened on this date to begin its work. In 2002, the date of International Peace Day was shifted to September 21.

It’s possible to achieve world peace, but it takes time. Most societies have been peaceful for most of history. We now have a far lower chance of dying in combat than previous generations did. Unless they are acting in self-defense or have been permitted to do so by the UN Security Council, nations have been bound by the UN Charter not to use force against others. In a world of peace, life is better, and today, we look to those who have made and kept the peace to learn how we can all make the world a better place individually.

International Day of Peace 2022: Significance & Aim

World is better when there is love, brotherhood, care, freedom and peace. Theme of this year is “End racism, Build peace” which is a message that everyone should have equal right of expression, to live and this world belongs to minors too as it belongs to everyone else.

In place of war and violence, we should try to resolve conflicts with peace and harmony. War always spreads hate and is not beneficial to anyone. War itself is a problem and it could never give a solution. Violence is always destructive, inhumane and brutal. It always leads to loss. This day reminds us that we should treat this world as our home where equal opportunity should be given to everyone. Every life matters, every opinion matters. A famous quote of Mahatma Gandhi applies here that  ‘an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.” Keeping that in mind wisely, we should promote peace and harmony.

War Resulted in a Loss of Peace

Past few months showed us how dangerous war could be for humanity. It always results in loss of lives, kindness, money, humanity and creates chaos. World is meant to each and everybody. This is not any county’s subjective space. Each race irrespective of caste, creed and colour is important.

International Day of Peace 2022 Theme

International Peace Day 2022: A more equal and peaceful world will be the focus of International Day of Peace celebrations in 2022. Past few years have been so racist and cases of racism have been rising. The UN has alleged the theme for the year 2022 is “End racism, Build peace”. Racism is not humane. This ill attitude should be terminated. The aim of this theme is to address the hate speech and violence intended for racial minorities. Theme for the year 2021 was “Recovering Better for an Equitable and Sustainable world”.

Best Way to Gain Peace of Mind

Spirituality is the best way to gain a peaceful mind and harmony. Through the right devotion to the Supreme God, integrating and providing stability can give extreme peace to our minds. It is by being entirely engrossed into the essence of the Word, and the fixity of attention on the Absolute, blesses us with the state of self-forgetfulness.
