World Mosquito Day 2023: Worldwide, people observe 20 August as World Mosquito Day every year. It is the day that celebrates the discovery of Sir Ronald Ross who was a British army surgeon. In 1897, in Secunderabad, Ronald Ross who was born in Almora, India, discovered on 20th August that Malaria is caused due to a parasite. He was also honoured for his discovery. He actually explained and showed how the parasite causes the disease in the blood and leaves people infected. He discovered that the cause of Malaria is a protozoan parasite which belongs to a genus Plasmodium that is a female mosquito species named Anopheles.

World Mosquito Day plays a vital role in making people aware about the preventive measures that can be taken to get rid of Malaria, the mosquito-borne disease that has taken the lives of many people.

Approved vaccine of Malaria

Till date if there is any vaccine that is approved and is used to prevent Malaria as short term protection are RTS, S, AS01 and PfSPZ. The WHO approved the former one in 2021 in the month of October.
