Uttarakhand Flash Flood: Only Supreme God Can Save Us From Any Disaster

In 2013, after a cloudburst over Kedarnath, Uttarakhand had seen one of the worst floods in its history. Thousands of people, including pilgrims and locals, lost their life. A glacial break in the Tapovan Reni area of Chamoli District of Uttarakhand on Sunday led to massive flooding in Alaknanda and Dhauli Ganga Rivers, wrecking houses, and the nearby Rishiganga power project. Sources said there were one hundred laborers on the barrage at Rishi Ganga of which at least fifty are feared dead. About one hundred and twenty-five people are missing, according to the latest reports, even as fourteen bodies have been fished out, while 15 have been rescued.

According to the sources, National Disaster Response Force teams stationed in Uttarakhand have left for the spot. The Tapovan Tunnel, where many laborers are trapped, has been completely blocked by debris. ITBP teams are removing the debris to rescue the trapped laborers.

Another ITBP spokesperson Vivek Pandey said, ‘As of now it seems the worst is over as the downstream flow in Alaknanda does not seem to be very detrimental and is under control. 3 teams of ITBP personnel, around 250 men, are engaged in rescue at the moment.’

The state government of Uttarakhand has announced financial aid of Rs four lakh each to the kin of the deceased, Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat said.
