The Earthquake struck at around 04:17 local time (01:17) GMT. This was the time when most people were in their sleep. According to the U.S. Geological Survey the epicenter of the Earthquake centered around 33 kilometers from the Gaziantep province.This was one of the most powerful earthquakes Turkey experienced after 84 years. Earthquake measured 7.8 on the Richter Scale. The tremors of this quake were experienced as far away as Cyprus (456 km) and Lebanon ( 874 km). This Earthquake centered 18 kilometers deep .

On the 6th of February, Turkey was struck by three consecutive devastating earthquakes. The first and largest Earthquake was of the magnitude 7.8. The second measured 7.7 in the Richter scale. WHO expressed concerns on the various Earthquakes stricken areas of Turkey. The United States and many other countries turned up to support the Earthquake struck Turkey and Syria. The EU (European Union) has sent rescue teams from Poland, France, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Romania,The Czech Republic and Croatia to help Turkey. Israel sent search and rescue teams and medical help to Turkey. Russia too sent a staff and rescue team to Syria. The U.S. government also said to aid Turkey.
