Thanksgiving Day 2020: When Is Thanksgiving Day Celebrated?

In the United States, Thanksgiving Day is commemorated every year on the fourth Thursday of November. In the year 2020, the Day is on November 26. Being a harvest festival and a family festival, the Day involves religious and secular aspects. Interestingly, the highest food is consumed on this Day as compared to any other day in the whole year.

History of Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day’s origin is traced long when Governor William Bradford arranged a celebratory feast after the first successful corn harvest in November 1621. The Governor had invited a colonist in Plymouth, Massachusetts, later known as the Pilgrims, including the native Wampanoag Indians. On later occasions, the feast was organized in honor of the Native Americans to help the Pilgrims cultivate crops and survive their first harsh winter.

In subsequent days, US Presidents, including George Washington, John Adams, and James Madison, celebrated Thanksgiving Days during their presidencies. President Abraham Lincoln announced a national Thanksgiving Day to celebrate in the country. In 1987, Ronald Reagan started a tradition to “pardon” a turkey. Since 1989, George HW Bush brought the pardoning ceremony tradition into the White House.

How Is Thanksgiving Day Celebrated?

  • Americans celebrate by meeting each other to express their thanks through food, family, and football.
  • Multiple NFL teams play on the holiday.
  • Some people celebrate Day by writing down their thankfulness and then read aloud.
  • In New York City, the occasion is marked with the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
  • Giant balloons of cartoons are floated in the sky, and marches are organized with bands and dancers.

The Holiday Is a Food Festival for the Americans

In America, the bird Turkeys become, with most dinners, an integral part of Thanksgiving Day. Americans’ favorites are yams topped with marshmallows, stuffing, cranberry sauce, cornbread, and pumpkin pie.

Is It Reasonable to Celebrate Thanksgiving Day by Consuming Turkey?

Society believes that turkey birds are chosen because of their large size sufficient to feed more persons and are not useful for laying eggs or making milk. According to an estimate, more than 50 million turkeys are distributed every year in the US for Thanksgiving Day. Is it a celebration by the massacre of innocent birds? Can a religious, intellectual society permit such an act? Certainly not.

President Trump Pardoned Turkey “Corn”

During the annual National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation, Ron Kardel, Chairman, National Turkey Federation (NTF) presented the National Thanksgiving Turkey named “Corn” to the US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on Wednesday. The president formally pardoned “Corn” and his alternate, “Cob.” They will now reside on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

Killing for Celebration Is Not Justified

Thanksgiving Day celebration by killing the innocent bird Turkeys is horrible. The people do not know the repercussions. The Eternal Knowledge is given by the Supreme God Kabir Saheb, and the holy Abrahamic and Vedic scriptures prohibit eating meat.

The person who kills any organism for taste faces severe actions in the current or subsequent births. One should understand Eternal Knowledge by reading Enlightened Saint Rampal Ji Maharaj’s sacred books Gyan Ganga and The Way of Living or watching sermons on Satlok Ashram YouTube Channel.

Come in the Refuge of Enlightened Saint Rampal Ji Maharaj

The people who have committed the sins and wish to get rid of them must come in the refuge of enlightened Saint Rampal Ji Maharaj and take name initiation from Him. By practicing the name recitation and obeying the Satguru’s instructions, all sinful deeds will be destroyed, and the person will live a joyful life and ultimately will attain Salvation.
