Thanksgiving Day’s origin is traced long when Governor William Bradford arranged a celebratory feast after the first successful corn harvest in November 1621. The Governor had invited a colonist in Plymouth, Massachusetts, later known as the Pilgrims, including the native Wampanoag Indians. On later occasions, the feast was organized in honor of the Native Americans to help the Pilgrims cultivate crops and survive their first harsh winter.
In subsequent days, US Presidents, including George Washington, John Adams, and James Madison, celebrated Thanksgiving Days during their presidencies. President Abraham Lincoln announced a national Thanksgiving Day to celebrate in the country. In 1987, Ronald Reagan started a tradition to “pardon” a turkey. Since 1989, George HW Bush brought the pardoning ceremony tradition into the White House.

Is It Reasonable to Celebrate Thanksgiving Day by Consuming Turkey?

During the annual National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation, Ron Kardel, Chairman, National Turkey Federation (NTF) presented the National Thanksgiving Turkey named “Corn” to the US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on Wednesday. The president formally pardoned “Corn” and his alternate, “Cob.” They will now reside on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
Killing for Celebration Is Not Justified
