Kalyan Singh Death News: After a long illness, the two-time chief minister of Uttar Pradesh passed away on Saturday evening in Lucknow. At Rajghat in Narora near here, he will be cremated with full state honors on Monday. Haider Ali Asad, referring to Singh as Babuji, said that the veteran leader enjoyed deep love and respect from Muslims in Pakistan.

Kalyan Singh Death News Update: Kalyan Singh Was Hospitalized Since July 4

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, has been treating the senior BJP leader in its intensive care unit since July 4. Severe kidney failure forced him to undergo dialysis last Friday. Unfortunately, Mr. Singh succumbed to death due to multiple organ failure and sepsis on the 21st of August. Last month, Prime Minister Modi tweeted that ‘untold numbers of people across India are praying for Kalyan Singh Ji’s speedy recovery.’

Twitter Filled With Condolences for Kalyan Singh

Former chief ministers Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati expressed their sorrow over his passing on Twitter. President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi both tweeted their condolences. 

Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister, also conveyed his sympathies while visiting Mr. Singh in the hospital earlier on Saturday. The Uttar Pradesh government has also declared three days of state mourning and a holiday in his honor.

Both Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh attended Kalyan Singh’s funeral today. UP governor Anandi Ben Patel, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and former MP CM Uma Bharti were also present for the BJP stalwart’s funeral rites. The body was removed from the Maharani Ahilya Bai Holkar stadium, where it was kept, at 9 in the morning. A yatra from the stadium to Bulandshahr was completed at around 3 pm. Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister, was also present during the yatra. 

Political Career of Former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh

He was elected to the state legislature for the first time in 1967, after being born in the town of Atrauli in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district. From June 1991 to December 1992, and again from September 1997 to November 1999, Mr. Singh served as Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister. Between 2014 and 2019, he was also the Governor of Rajasthan.

Ayodhya’s long-contested Babri mosque was demolished on 6 December, 1992 during his first tenure as Chief Minister. His first tenure is remembered for this very reason. This incident shook the country and is widely regarded as a watershed moment in modern India’s socio political history, as well as in the rise of his party, the BJP.

After the demolition, When Mr. Singh resigned as Chief Minister, then-President Shankar Dayal Sharma dissolved the government of Uttar Pradesh on the same day. Mr. Singh, along with other BJP politicians such as LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, was charged with conspiracy in connection with the incident.

Kalyan Singh & the Babri Masjid Dispute

Kalyan Singh Death News: Kalyan Singh and others in the case were acquitted by a Lucknow court last year. According to a 2009 interview with NDTV, the senior lawmaker fiercely denied that the demolition was the result of any conspiracy. ‘There was no collusion. It was an outpouring of the feelings of millions of Hindus whose aspirations had been suppressed for hundreds of years. We had made all necessary security arrangements, ‘ he stated.
