Bharti Singh Drugs News: The NCB launched an investigation into the consumption and possession of drugs by people of the Indian film industry after it received official communication from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), in which there were various chats related to drug consumption, procurement, usage and transportation in connection with actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
NCB has raided two other places on Saturday, in which 86.5 grams of hemp was recovered from comedian Bharti Singh’s production office and home (both places). The NCB claims that both Bharti Singh and her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa have accepted the consumption of cannabis. Bharti Singh was arrested under the provisions of NDPS Act 1986.
Know About Bharti & Haarsh’s Arrest in Points
On 21 November 2020, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) conducted a search at Bharti’s residence and recovered 86.5 grams of cannabis. She was later arrested by the NCB.
- A raid was conducted at her house in Mumbai by the NCB.
- The NCB searched Bharti Singh’s house and office in the morning as part of its probe into alleged drug use in the Hindi film industry.
- The couple was questioned by the Narcotics Control Bureau on Saturday and later got arrested and can be jailed for six months.
- Bharti was kept in the NCB office overnight (22.11.20) and produced in court on Sunday.
- 86.5 grams of cannabis was recovered from Singh’s house when NCB sleuths conducted a raid.

Why Was Comedian Bharti Singh Arrested?
Comedian Bharti Singh, arrested in the drugs case, will be produced in court today. Before this, her medical test will be done. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested Bharti Singh on Saturday after being questioned for three and a half hours. Bharti spent her last night in NCB’s Women’s Cell. On Saturday, 86.5 grams of ganja was found from Bharti’s home and office in NCB Raid. She confessed to taking cannabis with husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa.
Bharti’s Writer Husband Also Got Arrested
The NCB has also arrested Haarsh Limbachiyaa after 18 hours of questioning. According to sources, the NCB also questioned Bharti and Haarsh in front of a drug peddler, after which both of them confessed to taking cannabis. The drug peddler had named Bharti and Haarsh in the interrogation on Friday. After this, they were raided in their homes and offices in Andheri, Lokhandwala and Versova on Saturday. The staff of Bharti’s house was also questioned.
Bharti and Haarsh Can Be Jailed for 6 Months
An NCB official said that the quantity of hemp recovered from Bharti Singh’s house is less under the law. Hemp up to one kilo is considered low quality. In such cases, there can be a jail term of up to 6 months or a fine of Rs 10,000 or both.
NCB Is Questioning Bharti’s Manager and Servants
The investigation of the NCB team in the drugs case is going on. The NCB is questioning the manager and servants of Bharti and Haarsh. NCB has also ascertained the source from where both of them got drugs.
Earlier These Celebrities Were Questioned
The NCB team has already questioned many stars including Arjun Rampal, Sara Ali Khan, Shradha Kapoor, Rakul Preet and Deepika Padukone and her manager Karishma. Under the Sushant Singh Rajput case, NCB had arrested Riya Chakraborty on September 9 and her brother Shouvik Chakraborty on charges of procuring drugs for him. Riya Chakraborty subsequently got bail almost a month after her arrest.
Possession of Ganja and Its Punishment
The quantity allegedly seized from Bharti Singh’s possession is considered as “small quantity” under the act, as against “commercial quantity”, an NCB official said.
Up to 1,000 grams of ganja is considered a small quantity, which attracts jail term upto six months and/or fine of Rs 10,000. Possession of a commercial quantity of 20 kg or more can attract upto 20 years in jail. For the quantity in between, the punishment can be as much as 10 years in jail.
Growing or Selling Cannabis Is an Offence
Cannabis or marijuana is a drug. The production, trade, transportation and consumption of marijuana in the country is illegal under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985. The Center has given freedom to the states that they can license cannabis cultivation for medicine by changing their NDPS rules. There is also a provision for punishment for keeping this.
