The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, will commemorate National Tourism Day on January 25, 2024, as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ a 75-week grand celebration marking India’s 75th anniversary of independence. India holds a unique position in the world because of its magnificent tourist destinations. India has a diverse cultural heritage that draws a large number of foreign visitors.

Under the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration, ‘Rural and Community Centric Tourismis the theme for the National Tourism Day 2024. On January 24, 2024, the Ministry of Tourism launched the Indian Tourism Pictorial Quiz in honor of National Tourism Day and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The goal of this quiz is to highlight India’s diverse tourism products, architecture, culture, and cuisine while also testing public knowledge of the country’s tourism opportunities. Significance of National Tourism Day

India is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. The country is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, with multicultural experiences and a rich heritage accompanied by beautiful attractions.

Apart from providing entertainment, the sector is a significant contributor to the economy of the country. Travel and tourism made a direct contribution of Rs 5.94 lakh crore to GDP in 2017. By 2028, this is expected to grow at a rate of 7.1 percent per year, reaching to Rs 12.67 lakh crore.

Furthermore, the tourism industry directly generated 26,148,000 jobs in 2017, accounting for 5% of total employment, and increased by 2.8 percent in 2018 to 26,883,000 jobs. It is expected to grow at a rate of 2.1 percent per year over the next ten years, resulting in 33,195,000 jobs by 2028.
