The readers should know that the encounter became significant because Colonel Sharma was the second Commanding Officer of 21 Rashtriya Rifles to have been martyred in the last two decades. The Kashmir encounter claimed a total of five lives including Major Anuj Sood, Naik Rajesh, and Lance Naik Dinesh from 21 Rashtriya Rifles and Sub-Inspector Sageer Ahmad Pathan from J & K Police.
What happened on Saturday?
There was intelligence information that terrorists have taken hostage of civilians in a house in Changimulla in Handwara in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory. A team comprising of four army personnel and one Jammu and Kashmir police officer reached the site.

The operation went on for 12 hours and finally managed by killing two terrorists. It is said that in counter-terrorist operation as soon as the team entered the house they came under heavy firing by the terrorists. The team faced the situation bravely and two terrorists were eliminated. The deadliest operation martyred five braves of the Indian security force.
Handwara Encounter News-Who were the terrorists?
One identified as a top Lashkar-e Taiba terrorist Hyder alias Iqbal from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and another Asif Reshi from Gund Chabootra Handwara. The bodies of two terrorists have been buried in Baramulla district in presence of a magistrate.
